The Burundian resigned as the Nomads gaffer soon after the team’s second successive TNM Super League defeat to Mzuzu City Hammers 2-0 on Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium.

“This will be done to ensure continuity and stability within the team.”

Meanwhile, the Nomads have appointed assistant coach Meck Mwase as the interim head coach.

The Nomads have since wished Ramadhan all the best in his future endeavors

Confirming his resignation in an interview with The Nation on Sunday night, Ramadhan, sounding relaxed, said: “If the table doesn’t serve you anymore, what do you do?… complete the sentence…yes, you step aside.

“I won’t comment any further.”

Push came to shove for Ramadhan when some Wanderers fans demanded his removal soon after the Saturday match.

A video clip that went viral on social media on Saturday showed some fans chanting “Ramadhan achoke! [Ramadhan must go]” as the team bus left Mzuzu

Stadium while others shouted “mwatiwonjeza! [this is too much].”

A source said in his last days as coach, Ramadhan lost his dressing room and things got out of hand when he exchanged a verbal tirade with one of the players at half-time.

“At first, he was in control, but later on, things started getting out of hand and it was just a matter of time,” said the source.

Ramadhan was unveiled as Wanderers coach on March 4 this year and he got a hearty welcome on arrival at Chileka International Airport in Blantyre, complete with police escort.

As of yesterday, the Nomads were fifth in the 16-team flagship league with 12 points from eight matches, 10 points behind leaders Silver Strikers who handed them their first defeat of the season.

Under the Burundian tactician, they have won three games, lost two and drawn three.

In a related development, another Super League side Chitipa United has confirmed the resignation of its head coach McNeilbert Kazuwa and his assistant Elvis Kafoteka.

The team’s general secretary Watson Kabaghe said the two handed in their resignations yesterday and have been replaced by Gift Mkammanga and Wakisa Munkhondiya in an acting capaciyy.

Kafoteka also confirmed the development, saying: “There was a lot happening behind the scenes.”
